How to Use Your Stencils

Stenciling comes in many forms, so we’re here to help. Below are guidelines for stenciling on different surfaces, as well as guidelines for stenciling with different types of tools and methods.

For all applications, prior to stenciling: Ensure surface is clean and dust-free. Tightly affix stencil to surface using painter’s tape or stencil adhesive.

  1. Prime canvas with gesso.
  2. Use foam brush or dauber to lightly apply acrylic paint. Use multiple coats if necessary. Brush stippling method can also be used.
  3. Remove stencil while paint is wet.
  1. Place something firm, like a newspaper or cardboard, directly below fabric surface.
  2. Use foam brush or dauber to lightly apply fabric paint. Use multiple coats if necessary.
  1. Adhesive stencils are strongly recommended.
  2. At room temperature, shake etching cream. Wear gloves and protective eyewear.
  3. Apply etching cream thickly enough so the stencil’s design is not visible.
  4. Using warm water, remove cream and stencil after duration specified by etching cream’s instructions (this can vary between brands).
  5. Dry glass with a clean cloth.
  1. Dab excess paint off of brush onto a paper towel or something similar.

It is what it is

Stencil is as described. If you want to do a full yellow banner, you'll need to free hand some of the stencil. This is the only way to do it....

Product dimensions

I really want to love this stencil but, unfortunately, I feel like I just wasted $30. I purchased the 24" x 16.55" stencil. I was assuming that was the entire size of the stencil because that's how stencils have been measured when I've ordered them in the past from different shops. The sizes listed are the size of the the words on the stencil, not the overall stencil itself. Therefore, the stencil I ordered is barely too big for my project, so I'm unable to use it. Also know that the stencil arrives rolled up so it will not lay flat, at least the large stencil I purchased came rolled up. I think it's a good stencil if you know how they are measuring and advertising their stencils.

Great quality

The stencil I received was done with extra thick Mylar that is extremely durable. I’ve used it about 3 dozen times already and it’s still in perfect shape. Plan to order more
